Introduction to the Damascus Knife. Matthew Parkinson NEW CLASS!

This dynamic three day class will begin with learning to make pattern welded steel or as it is commonly known damascus steel. Students will learn through the making of their own billets. As well as a class discussion of the methods and science of forge welding steel. The class will explore several methods pattern development, along with discussion of the several additional avenues to explore.  

The next day will begin by forging a hidden tang knife from the bar of  this unique material. The class will then move on to profiling, heat treating ,and grinding their blades. 

The final day of the class will be spent polishing the blades, fitting guards and constructing handles.  Finally the knives will be etched to reveal the pattern, then assembled and sharpened. 

This class is suitable for seasoned beginners and intermediate smiths, as some ability in forging and heat control is helpful for success.
